Redesigned Form for Green Card Applicants

filling-formRecently a reformed Application to Register Permanent Residence or Adjust Status (Form I-485) was published by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. After some social polls Form I-485 and regulations have been updated aiming to make it more comprehensible.

This new edition provides more information on how to complete Form I-485. Hopefully, it will reduce errors and at the same time increase the effectiveness of the adjudication process. The new form is also helpful for those who have specific situations, giving detailed information to the parts of the form, how to file it correctly (also to submit evidence of reference to Form I-485 Supplement A or Form I-485 Supplement J, which were also revised.)

New Form I-485 includes:

  • Improved readability due to new order, spacing, flow and formatting;
  • Form G-325A included, so it is no longer a separate form (biographic information);
  • A list of 27 immigrant categories, to make it easy to detect your immigrant category;
  • A comprehensive, updated list of admissibility-related questions;

Still, the process itself remains the same, but its instructions may look different.
The Form I-485 should be filed by those who live in the United States and aspire to become lawful permanent residents, which comes with many benefits like legal right to live and work permanently in the United States.

By the 25, August USCIS will accept both the 01/17/17 and 06/26/17 editions of Form I-485. After the 25, August a revised Form only will be accepted.
