signature-document-penOn July 17, USCIS released a revised version of Form I-9, Employment Eligibility Verification. The old version (of 11/14/16) can be used by the employers by the 09/17/17 only. On September 17, a new revised version only will be relevant. Storage and retention rules remain the same and obligatory to follow (even for those forms which were completed earlier).

The revised form comprises a new name of the Office of Special Counsel for Immigration-Related Unfair Employment Practices, Immigrant and Employee Rights Section. Also, it comprises the Consular Report of Birth Abroad (Form FS-240) to List C. If the Form I-9 was completed on a computer, it is possible to select Form FS-240 from the drop-down menus available in List C of Sections 2 and 3.

It will be also available for those E-Verify users, who create a case for an employee with this document for Form I-9.

Also, all the certifications of report of birth issued by the Department of State (Form FS-545, Form DS-1350, and Form FS-240) were united one section C #2 in List C.

All List C documents but the Social Security card have changed their numbers.

All the changed were also included to Handbook for Employers: Guidance or Completing Form I-9(M-274).
