The green card is an immigrant visa or it’s also known as legal permanent residence (LPR). It allows citizens of other countries to live permanently in the United States with many rights and responsibilities, including the legal right to work and study in the United States.

The Application for a Green Card is a complex multi-step process. There are several immigration categories and ways to obtain a green card but also several requirements, procedures, application fees, and green card application forms to file. Russians can get green card through marriage, family, relatives, the U.S. employer etc.

In general, when applying for permanent residence the green card applicant must submit support documentation to prove eligibility to apply for a green card, and file a few application forms or petitions in order to complete the green card application process. One of the major steps on the way of obtaining the green card is to undergo a medical examination. The green card applicant should find out which doctors in his/her area are authorized to perform a medical examination for the U.S. immigration purposes, then contact to the doctors and prepare all the necessary records and bring them to the medical examination: vaccination immunization records, any prior chest x-rays, copies of the medical history records, the passport, identity card, laissez-passer, or travel document.

At last, the Russian citizen should schedule and undergo a medical examination, which includes: a review of the applicant’s medical history, physical examination, chest X-ray, and blood tests. The physical examination will at least include examination of the eyes, ears, nose and throat, extremities, heart, lungs, abdomen, lymph nodes, skin, and external genitalia. The results can be given either to hand-carry to the visa interview or will be sent to the local U.S. Embassy or Consulate in Russia.
