Green Card Lottery Instructions

posted in: Green Card 0

green card lotteryAs we know there are a lot of ways to obtain a Green Card (through marriage with an American citizen; through relatives; employment). One of the most popular ways to get a Green Card is to participate in Diversity Visa Program – DV Green Card Lottery. Selected winners will receive the right to apply for an immigrant visa to establish legal permanent residency in the United States and obtain a Green Card.

It is important to know that not all countries can take part in the Lottery. For a list of countries/areas by region whose natives are eligible for DV Lottery, please refer to our site or the U.S. Embassy or Consulate website to find out whether your country is eligible to participate. The requirements for the DV program are established by U.S. immigration law. If you are planning to register for the DV program, be sure to look closely at the requirements for this type of visa.

There is no cost to register for the DV Program. You should know that fees for the DV application process are paid to the U.S. Embassy or consulate cashier at the time of your scheduled appointment, but never in advance by check, money order, or wire transfer. Also nobody will send you e-mail informing that you are a successful DV entrant. You can only find out if you were selected to continue with DV processing by checking your status online through the DV Entrant Status Check at DV Lottery Official site.

The Diversity Visa Process includes 3 steps: entry, submitting a visa application and prepairing for the interview. You should know that all entries must be submitted electronically on the Electronic Diversity Visa (E-DV) website. There is a limited period of time during which you can register for the Diversity Immigrant Visa (DV) Program. Once you submitted a complete entry, you will receive the confirmation letter with your name and a unique confirmation number that you have to retain for further checking your status. The selection of applicants is held randomly оn or about May 5. If your entry is selected, you will be guided by further instructions, including information on fees connected with immigration to the United States.

It is necessary to know that selection in DV Green Card Lottery does not guarantee you will receive a visa. In order to receive a DV to immigrate to the United States, selectees must still meet the qualifying education or work experience requirements. The next step will be to prepare to the visa interview: submitting a visa application, providing supporting documentation (you should bring all the documents including the confirmation letter to the visa interview). You will only be scheduled for an interview when and if there is a visa number available for you.
